The Endless Versatility of the Traditional Photo Booth

Photo booths come in various styles, from 360-degree slow-motion video to using and providing old-school polaroids. Today, we’re highlighting what the CatMax Photography team provides with our traditional photo booth and how it can be customized for any event.

What a Traditional Photo Booth Involves with CatMax Photography

Decades ago, going to a standard photo booth used to mean squeezing into a standalone rectangle to have its automatic camera take your picture. Then, a slim strip of photos would instantly be printed for you. The open-air photo booth retains most of these elements, minus the enclosed space, thankfully, and is now seen as the norm.

Today, you strike a pose in front of a designated backdrop or background, and a photographer or automated camera snaps a photo. You then get to take home a physical copy of your photo that is often large enough to display in a standard frame or add to a photo album.

At CatMax Photography, a professional photographer always captures the images in our photo booth. We provide 5x7 photos and the option for event hosts to add a logo to the pictures. Clients can also choose to have every photo come with a folder to help guests protect their keepsakes. Additionally, clients can also opt to receive digital versions of the pictures–perfect for guests to share online.

Countless Customization Options

There are innumerable ways a traditional open-air photo booth can be designed and set up to fit any event, but that realization often doesn’t click for our clients until we talk through all the choices and share examples of what we’ve done in the past. Here’s a look at what’s possible with each part of the photo booth and process.

Background and Setup

We’ve provided photo booths for black-tie events, celebrity meet-and-greets, class reunions, parties, and beyond. The theme and feel you’re going for determine everything.

Once you know both of those, you can think about the story you want the photo booth images to tell, which can help you decide what background and setup situation are appropriate. For an upscale event, do you want clean, elegant photos that allow guests’ attire to be the star of the show? If so, a simple white backdrop for full-length photos could work perfectly.

If your event is more casual or you want a more vibrant backdrop, there are many directions you can go. Often, people think a single physical item, such as a standard plain or designed backdrop that can be purchased online or in-store or supplied for you by CatMax Photography, is the only option. But that’s not true. Consider using an interesting part of the event space as the background, as one of our clients, the Delta Flight Museum, once did. This is an excellent way to help tell the story of the event and its host.

You aren’t limited to just the backdrops and spaces that are available to you either. CatMax Photography can work with whatever you provide, so why not get creative and make your backdrop or, better yet, have your event designer construct one for you?

Additionally, the printer setup can be adjusted as well. Typically, the printing station is set up right where the photos are taken so that they can be printed instantly and given to guests. If your event is more formal, or you simply don’t want the process on display, it can be discreetly tucked away somewhere else, and guests can pick up their photos as they leave or receive them in a goody bag.

Props

Props are a great way to further bring the theme to life and can be as silly or refined as you like. To save you time and energy, we offer the add-on service of providing props appropriate for your event and the feel you desire, or you can supply them yourself.

Just because you have a photo booth doesn’t mean you have to have props, though. There is always the option to go without them.

Photo Distribution and Logo Placement

As mentioned, there is flexibility regarding when and where the photos are printed. You can choose for guests to pick them up themselves as soon as they’re printed after their photo is taken, post them for guests to grab on their way out, or come up with another way for guests to pick them up. You can also choose to distribute them.

A logo can be added to the images, or you can have it placed on the 5x7 protective photo folders you provide.

These are just a few of the ways CatMax Photography has customized its photo booth services. We’re always open to new ideas and are ready to fulfill your vision.
